Construction Update
Construction of Stage 2 of the Dutchess Rail Trail is well underway. Some brush removal was performed prior to the weather turning colder in January and the project's contractor, SunUp Enterprises of Wappingers Falls, New York, resumed construction in March and has kicked construction of the project into high gear. Now that the removal of several container loads of rubbish and debris that accumulated over the years as well as the clearing of vegetation for the trail is complete, SunUp has turned their attention to upgrades to the existing storm drainage system, preparation of the Morgan Lake and Overocker Road Trailheads for paving, and the preparation of the trail foundation. Work is also being done to repair the old concrete arch railroad bridges crossing the Fallkill Creek and Van Wagner Road. In order to permit repairs to the underside of the Van Wagner Road bridge, Van Wagner Road is scheduled to be closed to traffic from Monday, May 18th through Friday, May 25th. Please follow the posted detour and thank you for your patience.
Paving work is scheduled to begin in mid-May at the Morgan Lake Trailhead access to the rail trail and Overocker Road Trailhead parking lot, weather permitting. The project is currently on schedule to be complete and open to the public by the end of June.
The Dutchess County Department of Public Works is overseeing construction with C&S Engineers of Syracuse, New York performing daily inspection duties. For any questions about the construction please contact the Department of Public Works Engineering Division at (845) 486-2925.
